The taking away of the Daily is a dateable event which commences the 1290 days. The italicised word "sacrifice" is not in the text hence the Daily refers to something other than the Jewish sacrifices. This thing called the Daily was taken away in order to set up "the abomination that maketh desolate", i.e. to set up Papal Rome - see "the Daily" on this website.
Daniel 12:11 is here referring back to Daniel 11:31. Note the similarity of the verses, "... and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place (or set up) the abomination that maketh desolate." Daniel 11:31
Daniel 11:30, 31 is the transition from Pagan Rome to Papal Rome. (see the King of the North page) French armies under King Clovis stood on the part of Papal Rome and helped it come to power. These "arms" took away the last resistance to Papal dominance and helped set up or place the papacy, here called as in Daniel 11:31 and 12:11, the abomination that maketh desolate.
WHAT WAS THE DAILY?
The daily (Hebrew: Ha Tamid - the continual) is the continual spirit of self-exaltation of paganism first seen in Satan (Eze 28:14-15) and then manifested in the prophetic nations of the world from Babylon to Pagan Rome. (see study on the Daily). It is the life blood of the dragon (Revelation 12) flowing through its seven heads (heads = nations - see Dan 7:6).
It is unfortunate in Daniel 8:11 that the word 'ruwm' is translated 'taken away' in reference to the Daily.
"Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.
The word 'ruwm' actually means (see Strongs Concordance):
to rise, rise up, be high, be lofty, be exalted(Qal)to be high, be set on high
to be raised, be uplifted, be exalted
to be lifted, rise
(Polel)to raise or rear (children), cause to grow up
to lift up, raise, exalt
to exalt, extol
(Polal) to be lifted up
(Hiphil)to raise, lift, lift up, take up, set up, erect, exalt, set on high
to lift up (and take away), remove
to lift off and present, contribute, offer, contribute
(Hophal) to be taken off, be abolished
(Hithpolel) to exalt oneself, magnify oneself
(Qal) to be rotten, be wormy
The translators took one of the least of the meanings for the word 'ruwm' and applied it to Daniel 8:11 as 'taken away'. The more appropriate meaning is to lift up or exalt. The verse here shows how the Little Horn, Papal Rome, “took up” (‘ruwm’) the self exalting pagan antichrist SPIRIT from Pagan Rome, whereas Daniel 11:31 & 12:11 show how the Pagan & Arian FORMS of this spirit were literally “taken away” (Hebrew: ‘suwr’) to set up the papal form which is none other than paganism masquerading as Christianity. Pagan Rome transitioning to Papal Rome
suwr (cuwr) means:
to turn aside, depart
i to turn aside, turn in unto
ii to depart, depart from way, avoid
iii to be removed
iv to come to an end
a. (Polel) to turn aside
i. to cause to turn aside, cause to depart, remove, take away, put away, depose
ii. to put aside, leave undone, retract, reject, abolish
a. (Hophal) to be taken away, be removed
The “daily” was taken away ('suwr') “TO SET UP” the abomination of desolation - Papal Rome (Daniel 12:11 margin). As the 1290 days began with events to SET UP the Papacy, the 1290 “days” would apparently end with the ABOLISHING of the Papacy, with the latter occurring in 1798.
In order to reach from before the Papacy was set up to its abolition in 1798 the 1290 “days” must represent years, as “days” do in many other prophetic periods in Daniel. See Eze 4:6; Num 14:34. Working backward, 1290 years from 1798, when the reign of the Papacy ended, we see that the 1290 must have begun in 508. (AD508 + 1290 years = 1798). see further on for 1798 and "the time of the end".
In AD508 “arms” supporting the Papacy took away pagan and Arian anti-papal resistance and helped clear the way for the manifestation of the self-exalting power of Papal paganism, here called the “abomination that maketh desolate.”
Portions of Daniel which concerned the end times could not be worked out until “the time of the end” for Daniel was told to “seal up the book even till the time of the end...” Dan 12:4. Events in the time of the end opened the book to men’s understanding.
As the 1290 days began with events to establish Papal Rome it is clear that the end of the 1290 days marked the END of papal power. When the papal power was abolished in 1798 Bible students could then plot back 1290 ‘days’ (years to figure out when the 1290 ‘days’ (years) began, i.e. years to locate the taking away of the “daily.” Only when this was done could they then calculate forward to locate the end of the 1335 days in 1843/44.
In 496 A.D., Clovis, king of the Franks, one of the ten kingdoms (Daniel 7:24) became “...the first barbarian king to become a Roman Catholic.” Encyclopaedia Britannica, 1989, Vol. 3, p401,
He is called “Eldest son of the church.” His “arms” (or armies, Daniel 11:31) helped the papacy rise to supremacy by warring against the anti-papist powers. He used the sword to expand the power of the Papal Rome. Between A.D. 496 and A.D.508, by alliances, capitulations and conquests, the Arborici, the Roman garrisons in the West, Brittany, the Burgundians, and the Visigoths, were brought into subjection. From the time when these successes were fully accomplished; namely, 508, the papacy was triumphant so far as paganism was concerned.
“In 507 Chlodovech [Clovis] declared war on the [Arian] Visigoths.” C. Oman, The Dark Ages, p62.
“After a short engagement the Goths turned and fled...With this overthrow the rule of the Visigoths in Gaul was ended forever.” The Cambridge Medieval History, (1911) Vol. 1, p286
“...this conflict between the Franks and the Visigoths was regarded...as a religious war, on which, humanly speaking, the prevalence of the Catholic or Arian creed in Western Europe depended.” W.C. Perry, The Franks, From Their First Appearance in History to the Death of King Pepin, p85.
In this year, 508, paganism had so far declined, and Catholicism had so far relatively increased in strength, that the Catholic Church for the first time waged a successful war against both the civil authority of the empire and the church of the East, which had for the most part embraced the Monophysite doctrine. The extermination of 65,000 heretics was the result. . See Decline and Fall, Vol. IV, p. 526.
“[In] 508...Theodoric [the Goth] came against Clovis and gained a victory, after which he made peace with him and the resistance of the Arian powers was at an end.” Theodoric the Goth, T. Hodgkin, p194, p202-3.
“Arms” had stood on the papacy’s part (see Dan 11:31). History records that “by his conversion he [Clovis] had led the triumph of Catholicism; he had saved the Roman Catholic Church from heresy and paganism...” The Franks, from their First Appearance in History to the Death of King Pepin, W. C. Perry, p85-97).
Here is abundant evidence that significant events took place in and around A.D. 508. The arms of Clovis were bringing Catholicism to power and the strength of all other Satanically inspired self exalting systems of worship was being taken away.
In the year 508A.D. the successor of Pagan Rome was determined.
Also in 508 AD, according to Rapin, book 2, p124, the last of the 10 kingdoms, into which Pagan Rome divided, was ‘Christianized’ when King Arthur of Britain was baptized. Thus the “daily” in its Pagan & Arian forms was “taken away” in 508 AD and from this date the 1290 & 1335 day periods began.
Ironically, the Franks or French helped set up Papal Rome and it was the French which wounded the Papacy in 1798.
